Dead Poets Society : Dialogue on Documentary

At Sattva, we do not want to limit learning to children or students at school. We want to welcome learners from all ages and all backgrounds. This event was specifically designed for teachers and educators. These were beginners who were soon going to step into schools as teachers. We wanted them to reflect on their educational philosophies before they go ahead as teachers and thus, we conducted this event. There were 16 participants as a part of this event. We screened the movie Dead Poets Society and post screening had serious discussions on the idea of freedom and discipline in Education.

In order to improve the educational experience, our teachers must assume the role of change makers and the ones who deliver important messages in the classrooms. We want teachers to become facilitators who can go beyond the syllabus and teaching important lessons of life. The discussion in this event encouraged teachers to think beyond the boundaries set by conventional schooling patterns and to reflect on what they want to do as teachers and how they want their students to be.

Teachers were encouraged to bring out good human beings and free thinkers rather than just people who get good marks in their examinations. This was an eye-opening event for all of us, we understood how we can break certain hierarchies and step into classrooms as change makers.
