We observed women’s struggles and celebrated victory of women on this day by watching two important documentaries about lives of women. International women’s day and theme of embracing equity was the thought behind conducting this event. We watched the documentaries and then had a rigorous discussion on how women are placed in the society in the present context and what can be done even at an individual level to bring about necessary changes.
We discussed the stereotypes, the impact of patriarchy in India, the unending rituals that lead to more inequalities and various other aspects regarding women’s position and women’s rights. There were 7 participants in this event. All of them had a lot of experiences to share and felt relieved to bring out their concerns and their opinions as a part of this event.
Since ages, men have been the primary decision makers. In this event, we wanted women to decide for themselves, what kind of world they envision for themselves. They shared how they want to be seen, heard and felt in the future. The event was empowering and inspiring for all. It ended with a small movement session which helped them break the shackles of society and open up through dance steps and movements.
