Report on Global Citizenship Education Workshop – Teach to Transform : 24th & 25th March, 2025

I had the privilege of conducting a two-day teacher training workshop on Global Citizenship Education (GCED) at Sri Renuka Foundation School in Havalga village, Afzalpur, Karnataka, India. The workshop aimed to deepen educators’ understanding of GCED, its relevance in today’s world, and its connections to the philosophies of Indian thinkers like Rabindranath Tagore, who emphasized holistic and inclusive education.

Throughout the two days, teachers actively engaged in interactive sessions and hands-on activities designed to explore innovative pedagogical approaches. A key focus was on adapting GCED principles to suit local classroom settings, ensuring that global perspectives remain contextually relevant and impactful. Special emphasis was placed on storytelling and critical inquiry as effective tools to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. These methods help students think critically about the world around them and foster a sense of global responsibility and empathy.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this workshop was collaborating with dedicated and passionate educators who are committed to shaping young minds. Their enthusiasm and willingness to integrate GCED-focused lesson plans into their teaching practices were truly inspiring. Encouraging teachers to make learning more global, reflective, and action-oriented was a key objective, and it was fulfilling to see their eagerness to implement these ideas in their classrooms.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Principal Kalpana Nagar and the entire school management for their support and hospitality in making this workshop a success. Their commitment to fostering meaningful education is commendable, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their journey.

A special thank you to UNESCO Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) for equipping me with the necessary training and resources to bring Global Citizenship Education into Indian classrooms. Your support has been instrumental in empowering me to make a meaningful impact in education, and I look forward to continuing this journey of transformation.

This experience reaffirmed my belief in the power of education to bridge local and global perspectives, preparing students to become thoughtful, responsible, and engaged global citizens. I look forward to more opportunities to promote GCED and collaborate with educators in shaping a more inclusive and interconnected world.
